This is Milly who has been coming to see one of our Veterinary Surgeons, Laura, for management of her Atopic Dermatitis (itchy skin) for some time now. Milly’s condition is quite advanced and both Laura and her owner have been working hard to manage her allergies.
Laura is currently studying towards here PgC Small Animal Dermatology Certificate and has been given exclusive access to a new product called Cytopoint that hopefully will help Milly. Laura was 1 of only a small group who were specially invited to the official UK launch of this new product and given access to use the product exclusively before it is launched nationally later in the year.
Cytopiont is a new long lasting monthly injection for the control of atopic dermatitis in dogs. It is the first monoclonal antibody to manage this condition. Because Cytopoint is a biological therapy and not a drug, it is naturally broken down by the body and therefore has very minimal side effects. It has been used now in the USA for 2 years with great success.
Milly had her first injection today and will be one of the first dogs in the UK to receive this treatment so as a practice we are very excited at the opportunity not only to help Milly but to help Laura with her studies and for the practice to be able to offer this to our clients in the future.
