Helen Booth RVN – Blackpool Branch Manager

May 16, 2022

Today as part of #rvnawarenessmonth2022 we celebrate Helen.  Helen joined the reception team back in 2013.  She transitioned over to the nursing team and undertook her nurse training here at Rowan, qualifying in February 2019.

Helen has shown a keen interest in the management side of veterinary work and has since been promoted to Blackpool Branch Manager.  This role attracts many additional responsibilities outside of her clinical role.  Helen has developed and implemented an operating procedures process to help book in and manage the day-to-day running of operations.  Her clinical role and knowledge allow her to effectively oversee this process so it runs smoothly for staff, clients and patients.  Helen is also usually the one monitoring the anaesthetics for operations that take place at Blackpool.

Part of Helen’s management role is responsibility for stock management and hygiene standards for the branch as well as developing new protocols to support improvement in our service delivery.  She is responsible for our in-house laboratory, being the main contact for our suppliers who provide service, maintenance and consumables.  She is a key support for our head nurse and liaises with her to ensure the branch is running smoothly at all times.

Helen also supports the practice manager by taking responsibility for equipment maintenance and repair and ensuring that health and safety is maintained at all times.  She is currently involved in planning more internal improvements to the building and has some really clear ideas as to how to achieve this.

Helen has also developed a keen interest in and is an advocate for a “Fear Free” approach for our patients.  She loves to work with nervous and elderly dogs and her favourite consultations are the “Hello” consultations for nervous dogs.  These consultations are designed to help nervous dogs get used to coming to the vets, using positive reinforcement.

Helen does have a magic touch when it comes to angry cats.  Having been the owner of a rather mischievous and single-minded cat of her own, Albert, she has mastered some good handling techniques that keep both the staff and our feline friends safe and happy whilst receiving the necessary health care they need.

If you’d like to know more about our “Hello” consultations, contact the team on PetsApp or by calling 01772 639800 OR 01253 766352 and ask to speak to Helen.
