Hayley Winston - Vet Surgeon

Hayley Winston NCert (E&CC) ISFM Dip FN RVN

Clinical Lead

I joined the Armed Forces when I was 16 years old and initially trained as a HGV driver and physical training instructor. I went on to complete a tour in Iraq. I completed work experience in the dog section, working alongside dog handlers and trained sniffer/tracking dogs.

After leaving the army I qualified as a professional dog groomer. I also volunteered with the RSPCA to gain experience that would allow me to pursue a career in veterinary nursing. Initially, I worked as a Receptionist/Auxiliary Nurse for three years and then started my training over the next two years.

I came to Rowan Vets in 2012 as a relatively newly qualified RVN. I have continued to develop my skills and knowledge as a clinician, particularly in senior cat health, emergency treatment, and ‘fear free‘ veterinary work.

I was offered the role of Head Nurse in 2015, which required me to develop the skills and knowledge needed to manage a team of Nurses, as well as contribute to the strategic management of the practice as a whole.

I have now transitioned over to a new role of Clinical Lead, working alongside our Head Nurse to continue to drive change and improve standards.

I was born and raised in Blackpool and have three dogs and a cat who I share with my partner, and a selection of chickens.  I enjoy reading (particularly true crime stories), audio books, walking, shopping, and skiing.
